Today we went to have Joshua's medical exam done for his visa. He quite independently went about it, with Mom and Dad following along, cameras in hand. He was cracking up the staff, which are beginning to become accustomed to! :>) It was the opposite experience of what we had with Jeremy, which was a room of mayhem and chaos, with the "quiet please" sign teetering above the masses. Today, the room was empty--lights out, nobody home kind of empty--when we arrived, and they quickly wisked us in and out in 10 minutes!!! I suppose it would be wrong to say that we were "disappointed" that it wasn't crazy, but we expected it to be, and in a strange sort of a way, it was a letdown that it wasn't that same memorable experience! :>)

We also visited another local attraction--the Chen Ancestral Hall, which has very remarkable CHinese architecture from the late 1800s. Joshua was most impressed with pushing buttons on the cooling fans throughout the building however, but SOMEDAY he will ask about those pictures--of course I will be too old to remember what they are, but he may care, nonetheless!!! :>) :>)

Tomorrow we visit the orphanage. It was up in the air for a couple of days, as they initially declined to let us come due to construction, but we appealed and they did give us permission to come. Mary has talked to Joshua to try to prepare him for what will happen--he will have a chance to tell his friends (of which we are told he has many!) and nannies goodbye and give them some candy treats. We THINK he will do fine, as he seems quite independent and excited about being adopted now, but you never know how seeing their old home will affect them for sure... Of course, it will be hard for us to see him say his goodbyes, and the kids left behind as well.... We really feel strongly that it is important for us to do so that we can share what we know of his first home as he grows and has questions, and also to give him opportunity for some closure... We are not allowed to take pictures of any of the kids, so don't be expecting anyof those kinds of shots tomorrow... We will also have lunch with an American who lives in Shenzhen and has a ministry visiting the orphanges there to have her fill in details from her perspective, so we are looking forward to meeting with her and other volunteers as well.

I had a really cute video to post, but the blog does not like it, so no video! It showed Joshua in all of his comedic glory--guess you will just have to wait to meet him in person!!!!! He is too funny, so prepare yourselves! If any of you have highspeed ISP and want me to send it to you by email, that seems to be working, so email me your "requests" and I'll see what I can do.
